Why see the world, when you got the beach? A vacation at Martha's Vineyard

" BEACH (noun): A place of rest, relaxation, and tranquility. "

After a month long summer session of classes, I decided a vacation was exactly what I needed. So right after I finished my last final, I was off to Martha's Vineyard with my family for the 4th. We stayed in Oaks Bluff, which is a part of the island where the African American families would vacation back in the day. The island was beautiful and radiated chill vibes; I'm missing the island and the vibes as I type. In preparation for my trip, I was in need for some new swimsuits. I have been feeling the monokini/one piece look that's been on trend for a while. Being a lover of anything vintage, I had to have one. The first one piece I picked up was from American Apparel, who's infamous for their high cut bathing suits and high waisted bikini bottoms. I found a nice red one piece which gave me major Baywatch vibes, and it happened to be on sale so I snagged it. While browsing in TJ maxx I came across the holy grail of swimsuits. A monochromatic black and white Marc Jacobs one piece that was begging to be a part of my closet. I couldn't refuse it if I wanted to, and frankly I felt no guilt. Between the good food, good people, and  beautiful scenery I enjoyed every moment of my small getaway, and cannot wait till next year. Below you will find my beach day looks and some  and the details on them along with some other pictures from the island.

See you all on my next post,

Love Lex

21!

"Your twenties are your selfish years. It's a decade to immerse yourself in every single thing possible. Be selfish with your time and all aspects of you. Tinker with shit, travel, explore, love a lot, love a little and never touch the ground." --- Kyoko Escamilla

Hey everyone, I know that I haven't made a posted in quite some time. I had to take a hiatus from it for a while. I was in a place of uncertainty. I felt discouraged and didn't even know if I wanted to blog or do anything anymore. So I'm on a journey of sorts, a journey to find myself and figure out what I really want out of life. With that being said I had to fall back in love with Blogging and fashion and now I have returned. 21, it even feels foreign to me as I type it. I still don't even feel like I'm that old yet. Most people who turn 21 are down for the "turn up" and go hard that day. Personally, I don't feel the need to do all of the traditional coming of age stuff, because turning a year older means that I have been blessed to see another year and I'm just working harder to achieve my goals. I spent the first half of it in back home New York and then my actual bday in DC. New York was great as always but since I was there for such a short time I didn't take any pictures :( However, I  definitely flicked it up for on my birthday! Below is the all the outfit details and where you can find everything. While shopping for my bday outfit I found myself in a panic because I felt that had to do the most since its my big 21st. I ended up getting some inspo from a blogger I saw on Instagram and decided to go with a minimal/monochrome look for the big day.

See you all on my next post,

Love AJ

I wanted to come up with an outfit that captured my personality. I love a good pair of pumps just as much as the next girl I live in trainers or sneakers 90% of the time. I've really feeling the monochrome suited look so and I really couldn't pick between heels or trainers so I did both!

Winter Essentials

Hey everyone, I hope you all had a great holiday season and happy New Year to you guys! Lately, I have been pretty obsessed with creating pieces on Polyvore. It's actually a really entertaining app and is a great source for inspiration. With that being said, I decided to compile a "Winter Wardrobe Essentials" post for you all. I have categorized it into 5 simple categories:Outerwear,Sweaters,Shoes, Jumpsuits, Bottoms,Accessories, and a few bodysuit/skirt pieces.

See you all on my next post,

Love AJ

  • OUTERWEAR:  This probably goes without saying but Outerwear is a key component in your winter wardrobe. Buying a nice overcoat or jacket can be the perfect piece to pull an outfit together. So if you do anything this season, invest in a statement overcoat. I selected a black overcoat simply because it's classic, chic, and  a staple to have in your closet. The grey colored coat is very "On Trend" this Autumn/Winter season and is a definitely on my wishlist. The Camel coat is probably one of my favorite trends this season, and similar to The Black coat,The Camel coat has this classic aura about it,I feel like the color makes your whole outfit look more expensive. The Olive bomber is another "oldie but goodie" that has been seen everywhere this season, and it's perfect to have despite how complex or simple your style is. A Leather Jacket is another staple to have in your wardrobe, and if you want to go all out look for a detailed one with padding and zippers. The last piece is optional and more for the Sport luxe type of person;Varsity jackets are another effortless piece that you can throw on when you're on the go.

  • SWEATERS: These are another no brainer as far as your winter wardrobe goes. I picked out a few Cowl neck sweaters in Nude/Neutral tones which are easy to pair with a lot of pieces whether you're dressing it up or down. The pullover knit sweaters are a personal favorite of mine for this season, they're so comfy and effortless!

  • JUMPSUITS: These have become a big ticket item in my closet. I feel like jumpsuits are perfect to have because it still has potential to be dressy and is still minimal all at the same time. Jumpsuits come in an array of fabrics and colors and can depending on said fabric you can rock it all year long.

  • Bodysuits are great for a number of things, like pairing with trousers, jeans skirts etc, and they're also very sexy.Since they have become "on trend" a bodysuit should be super easy to find in stores. The Wrap dress have also become very popular and are another item I'm definitely picking up this season and who doesn't need a good sweater dress for the season. The pencil skirt trend is also a great pickup for your wardrobe and can be worn year round.

  • ACCESSORIES: I just picked a few choice items for this category. The fedora has come back and left but it's back like never before, if you're not as daring as Pharell, a simple tan or black one will do just fine. Beanies are something I'm sure everyone owns, but the fur pom pom brings light to an old staple. Leather gloves are chic and give you this boss kind of feel when you slip them on. I didn't include a circle/infinity scarf but that's definitely one of my staples for the winter season (I practically live in mine). However the Plaid scarf can be a nice touch of color to a monochrome fit. The faux fur collar is also a great way to spice up a seemingly simple outfit, it adds a nice sophisticated touch to an outfit. The last three are optional but are also very minimal pieces to have in your wardrobe.

SHOES: Winter is all about boots, boots and more boots. From the chelsea boot (shown in brown) to your Timberlands, to your Thigh Highs heels, boots are extremely essential for the season. I also threw in some casual shoes like the Sk8 Hi vans and the metallic slip ons which you can rock on those warmer days.Thigh boots are probably the only thing I have been obsessed with all season and I am still on the hunt for a good pair.

  • BOTTOMS:  Here are a few of my favorite styles of jeans to incorporate into your wardrobe. I decided to pick out the basic colors so that it's super easy to match with practically anything and you can wear them all year long. This past season/current season the "ripped on the knee" jean have been pretty popular such as the black pair and gray pair. Typically I wear them on a day to day basis with slip ons or sneakers but they can also be dressed up with a pair of boots or strappy heels or stilettos. The olive jeans are a great dupe for the Balmain bikers which have also been super popular but are also super expensive. So if you want the look for less, you can find them at stores like H&M, Zara, Topshop etc. The boyfriend Jean and Black leather pants are also a great staple to include in your wardrobe.

Eleven.Twenty One.Fourteen.

Welcome back you guys! So on Saturday I went to Potomac Mills for the first time, and might I say I fell immediately in love. They had everything from F21 to Saks fifth, and I didn't even have time to circle the whole place. (I will be returning soon to buy Xmas gifts.) Today I purchased another 2 pairs of shoes, but before you kill me, they were on sale! lol  I purchased a pair of Sliver metallic slip ons for $13,and a pair of Gray peep toe booties for $16, all from Marshall's. (In retrospect, perhaps it was best that i didn't circle the mall because I would be broke.) So I almost have everything I need to complete this long awaited Fall/Winter lookbook, but depending on when I have the time it may just become a Winter lookbook. Stay tuned for that and the A.Wang X H&M lookbook.
****Side note: thank you to everyone who keeps up with my blog, even though I don't post as frequently as I would like too. I love you guys for that! Also tell me what you would like to see on here, any suggestions are welcomed. Just email me at AlexisJBattle@Gmail.com or hit me up via Twitter or Instagram both entitled V00dooChildd (those first two "o" are zeros BTW)

See you all on my next post,

A Day In the District

Hey everyone welcome back to my blog! Now that it is actually cold out I couldn't wait to bring out my coats and scarfs. This past Friday I went down to Chinatown/Gallery Place, which is downtown DC for those who are not from the area, to catch up with a friend of mine. While we were down there we snapped endless photos, found some great fall/winter accessories, and had a great dinner at Vapiano's. I purchased a pair of leather gloves (because it's getting ungodly cold) from UO for about $30,A deep olive green overcoat from F21 for $84.80 and a Plaid scarf for $10 (However I received 20% off by signing up for their membership) lastly from H&M a pair of dark brown colored booties for $50 and some midi rings. When I shop, especially when i don't have it like that, I scout out the deals! With Black Friday and Christmas around the corner you will definitely find tons of deals, so be sure to rack up!

See you all on my next post,

"You'll Be A Woman Soon" PULP FICTION INSPIRED COSTUME

"In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up in costumes and beg adults for candy. In girl world Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it." -- Mean Girls

I hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday! Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, there's a refreshing chill in the air, people are decked out in the most intricate costumes, and the candy is always a plus. So this year I decided to dress up as one of my favorite movie characters Ms Mia Wallace from the Quentin Tarantino classic Pulp Fiction. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I'm utterly obsessed with this film and I have been planning this ensemble for months! So here's my attempt at being Ms Mia Wallace. The best thing about this costume was that I didn't even have to break the bank, everything I needed was already in my closet. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did wearing it.See you guys on my next post. PS I've working on putting  together a lookbook for the A/W season so stay tuned for that within the next couple weeks!

I didn't have the time to do my own outfit grid ,However this was a pretty similar layout to what I wore...Listed is the exact items that I put together
Olive Green Duster Coat :Missguided.us.com,
Simple white blouse: Ralph Lauren
Black skinny jeans: H&M,
Black flats: Steve madden.

For those who are curious about what i used for the "bloody nose" it was a food coloring gel! Which worked successfully because people really thought I got punched it the face. lol
